Wayfinding Early Concept Designs

Figured I should post a few quick early signage, and logos, for the BDS wayfinding project.  Every aspect of these images should not be considered final.  They were attempts for judging color and positioning for various signs.

The blue design meshed better with the already existing signage that the library had.
The yellow markers were far more engaging to the eye however.  Though there are already many arrows in the same locations as our signs would be located at, they are not very engaging with the viewer.

Maybe we should consider looking at how we should change the existing signage instead of creating our own?

Coca Wayfinding Response

I feel that some of the suggestions are too complicated for the project the class is undertaking.  However, some of the suggestions are interesting.  Such as not using certain colors, colors that should be used for emergency exits, and other public safety colors.

After reading the article I think that a combination of solutions could be implicated that would successfully demonstrate way finding.

For my specific project, my group has gotten permission to guide through Watson Library.  Firstly I think a map of each floor should be designed and posted at the landing of each main floor. Each map should show where half levels are and how one would get to them.  Such as the map of the 1st floor should have a slight extra map for 1 1/2 floor that is accessible from the 1st floor.

BDS Wayfinding Project

New semester, a new batch of BDS projects to blog and share.

To start the semester, the project deals with wayfinding.  How can directions, and locations, be easily understood and followed.

There were a few options that my group discussed but we eventually settled on trying to navigate through the stacks of Watson Library on campus.

When we went to discuss location options with library staff they were excited to have ideas to help people from getting lost.

Specifically, they suggested 11/2 east as a location.  After touring the location and scoping routes, the group seemed to be enthusiastic about the project.

Drawing Homework

One of the assignments this week, for drawing class, was to do sets of self portraits.  One strait view, one 3/4 turn and one profile drawing.

Though I haven't finished the other views yet I feel like sharing the strait on perspective drawing.

Painting Finished

During the break in-between classes I finished my sister's graduation painting. She requested sunflowers, I choose to add a sunset.  The sunset was taken from a photo I found somewhere on the internet, I only added a few hints of purple to the original cloud colors.

Enjoy.
